The spring fashion season has officially arrived! Fashion defines people by representing who they are on the inside or who they strive to be in the future.
University Academy sophomore Sasha Draper said, “I take time to care about fashion because it’s a way to express my personality through clothes.”
Social media heavily influences teens on the different styles that’s out there and how they could put different things together; because of this, it helps them a lot because they’re able to see examples of styles, hairstyles and accessories. Old trends are often coming back, and new trends are usually developing. Most outfits trending on TikTok, Instagram and Pinterest show different types of styles and give examples on how to put together fits.
According to Coveteur, the color that’s in for this spring is chartreuse. High rise jackets, which feature funnel necks, are popular, too, since they are leather and waterproof. Strapless and off the shoulder tops are in for the spring.
Shopping depends on the person and his or her style.
UA sophomore Aniyah Franklin said her style is mainly streetwear. When she goes shopping and wants to find something for a reasonable price, she mainly shops at Target, Ross, Lululemon, T.J. Maxx and Alo. But when spending more money or wanting higher quality clothes, she goes online to buy clothes from BAPE, Ksubi, Farfetch or Supreme.
Teen boys could shop at these stores, as well, but they often find other places online like PacSun. A popular in-person option for shoe shopping is Reset.
Putting together a cute hairstyle is another fashion choice when planning a specific outfit. Females could change up their hairstyles depending on what they’re wearing. As of right now, Cassie braids, Fulani braids and flip-over quick weaves are popular with streetwear outfits since it’s beginning to get hot outside. As for fashionable haircuts for boys, it’s about to be summer, so this is the perfect time for shorter or “restart” haircuts.
To tie outfits together, teen girls normally acquire a rare accessory, jewelry, purses or a specific hairstyle. Since UA students can’t wear regular clothes, accessories are a way for them to articulate their type of style.
UA sophomore Ta’Jaun Cann said, “For me, what really pulls an outfit together is the shoes and accessories—especially hats, which I think are underrated.”
Ultimately, teens often take fashion seriously as it can boost their confidence, help them adapt to society, and provide an outlet to emotionally express themselves.
