As the new year starts, for anyone who makes resolutions and goals, this is the time to focus on staying consistent with them.
Reflecting toward the end of the year is a perfect way to begin thinking about new goals to set. During this time, an individual can look back at achievements, failed missions and growth from the previous year. It might also be helpful to spend time recognizing the most joyful moments but also remembering the rough times that had to get patched up.
To start setting goals, people must think about anything they want to accomplish. This might include personal growth, financial matters, whether that’s saving or learning to spend more, meeting new people, creating new hobbies or getting into religion more. According to a survey on YouGov, 31% of Americans made New Year’s resolutions for 2026. The top three resolutions involved improving at working out more, being happy and eating healthier.
University Academy freshman Timon Ford said, “The goals I have for the year are to just change my position in everything and just [make] a smooth transition into my godly life.”
He also said he hopes to “be more accountable and honest with myself.” Ford plans to do this by surrounding himself around positive energy and changing his mindset.
When there is a big goal set that takes a while to accomplish, miniature steps and targets along the way might make that goal possible.
To achieve resolutions that are set, creating monthly or even weekly goals are a step forward to success. UA freshman Naeona Gates said she plans on keeping up with her goals by using self-discipline.
Ford also said he plans on “focusing more on the right things instead of the drama” to keep himself grounded.
For University Academy students, at the start of January, grades completely reset. With the grade book restarting, everyone has the chance to build a stable foundation right now! Students are ecstatic at the start of the school year, being able to make new bonds, receive better grades and starting off with a blank slate in the grade book.
Gates said, “I plan to make myself grow to be a better version this year by making sure to hold myself accountable and be responsible academically in all aspects.”
It’s never too late to set new goals during the year. Better late than never!
