The Kansas City Chiefs are currently 9-1 throughout the 2024 football season.
The Chiefs started the season with a win against the Baltimore Ravens. Since then, they have defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, Los Angeles Chargers, New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers, Las Vegas Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Denver Broncos. They were the only undefeated team in the NFL until Sunday, when they lost to the Buffalo Bills.
The Chiefs moved to Kansas City back in 1963. They were originally in Dallas, Texas, and started in 1959. The Chiefs won three AFL Championships in the 1960s. Andy Reid became the head coach of the Chiefs in 2013, and under Reid, the Chiefs have three super bowl titles. In the team’s entire history, they won championships in 1970, 2020, 2023 and 2024.
Imagine how Chiefs fans feel to have the potential of being the champions of the Super Bowl once again. The University Academy staff and students feel very excited about this possibility.
Prior to Sunday’s loss, UA football coach Mr. Andrew Blakemore said, “It’s great to see the Chiefs going undefeated thus far. That being said, it may not be the worst thing for them to lose a game now to ease some of the pressure of going undefeated.”
However, not everyone is a fan of the Chiefs in the UA community. Mr. Chris Bergida, the accounting and entrepreneurship teacher, is a Green Bay Packers fan. Mr. Bergida said he keeps up with Chiefs football “to watch them lose.”
Even though he is not a big fan of the Chiefs, he still supports the team.
“I wear a Chiefs jersey sometimes on Red Fridays, and I also wear a red Packers shirt,” Mr. Bergida said.
He said he watches football players like No. 87 “Travis Kelce because he’s good and—Taylor Swift.”
Mr. Blakemore watches the sidelines in the games.
“As a coach, I always find myself watching the trenches when I watch football on TV. The interior linemen are the most important players on the field because they allow the flashy players to perform,” he said.
The Chiefs have seven more regular season games. Next up, the Chiefs will play the Panthers at noon this Sunday.
Then, over the next several weeks, the Chiefs will face the Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers, and they’ll end the regular season playing the Denver Broncos again.
Super Bowl LIX will take place on Feb. 5 at Caesars Superdome, which is home to the New Orleans Saints.
Every Chiefs fan is excited to see what the team has in store for the remainder of the season!
