A late night concert with a worldwide famous artist! For any music fan, this might sound quite amazing. Popular singer and songwriter Rod Wave is currently on touring in North America and will play at Kansas City’s T-Mobile Center on Nov. 5. He kicked off the Last Lap Tour in Glendale, Arizona, on Oct.19, and by the time it finishes in December, he will have performed in 32 different states.
This is perfect timing because Rod Wave just released his new album, “Last Lap,” on Oct. 11, which is said to be his final album. It was highly anticipated by fans and includes 23 tracks, featuring several different artists.
Senior Marquis Byers is planning to attend the upcoming Rod Wave concert in Kansas City. Byers said listening to Rod Wave’s music helps him be more productive and focused, and Rod Wave’s music helps him academically, as well.
“In most cases, I just relax and sing along, but it also is good for when I need to work or study. The chill beats and relaxed melodies in his music help me study and create a relaxed work environment,” he said.
Byers said he is excited to hear the music performed live and hopes to hear “25,” “D.A.R.E.,” “Even Love” and “Never Mind.” Those four songs “relate to problems that KC teens go through with drugs and relationships and wanting to grow up quickly,” he said.
Byers said a couple of songs get him emotional on a personal level because of the level of relatability and understanding he has with them. Sophomore Jhonae Weaver plans to go all out at this concert, and she already knows it’s going to affect how she performs in class later that following week.
She said, “I am ready for the consequences. I know this will affect how I am in class the following Wednesday. I am going to be screaming and singing my life away all night until 11 p.m!”
She said she will either pull an all-nighter after the concert or not go to bed until 2 a.m.
Weaver said she has been waiting for this concert and is really excited to be attending, especially since this is the last tour he is doing. Weaver said to hype things up a bit more, she hopes Rod Wave will bring out fellow rapper Lil Baby.
Weaver and Byers are both on the same page in believing Rod Wave’s music is an amazing experience, and both believe he should play a mix of all songs—some old, some new and even some that aren’t as popular.
Both students are very excited to attend this concert and plan to enjoy their night, and for anyone else who goes, stay safe and have fun.
