This year, University Academy has welcomed some new faces in the library. The new librarians are Ms. Danielle Scaduto, who goes by Ms. Danielle, and Ms. Ashanti Hutton, who goes by Ms. Ashanti.
The new book curators, Ms. Danielle and Ms. Ashanti seem to have made the library more visually attentive and are working to add some modernized touches to the area.
Senior Nia Topps said, “I’ve noticed some decorations that they’ve added to make it more appealing to the kids. I think that’s a nice touch to add into the library. I also enjoy the “would you rather” questions and the questions of the day.”
Even with the new and exciting library touches, Topps said, “It was kind of sad seeing everyone that was there when I was a kid not be there anymore.”
UA’s two longtime librarians from recent years, Mrs. Lisa Spellman and Mr. Larry Eichner, may no longer be in the library, but they are both still part of the UA community. Mrs. Spellman can still be seen around the school working with the special education team, whereas Mr. Eichner has retired but still takes pictures for many of the school’s events.
The new librarians said they love to meet new students and give them more information on books, reading or even any general topic. They feel like it’s important for the students to be able to find information they need.
“I wanted to become a librarian because access to information is important to me. There are many barriers that don’t allow people to get accurate information, and libraries combat that,” Ms. Danielle said.
Of course, the librarians themselves love reading and all the knowledge it feeds them.
Ms. Ashanti said, “I am immensely passionate about reading and books. That’s how I discovered I love listening to storytelling and music.”
UA’s new faces said they love the environment UA provides to its students, families and staff. UA prides itself on offering students a safe and respectful community.
Ms. Danielle said she likes how the library is open to all UA students and that she can introduce children to books to give them long-lasting memories.
UA’s new librarians are incredibly excited about their new jobs and are enjoying their welcome. Ms. Ashanti said she could even picture her and her family living at UA some days.
Let’s welcome the new librarians with open arms and help them enjoy their first year as part of the UA family.
