“Mufasa: The Lion King” is the latest Disney Studios movie and an installment to “The Lion King” franchise. It hit theaters on Dec 20. “Mufasa” was one of the most successful movies of 2024, bringing in the seventh highest amount of money at the box office, according to Box Office Mojo. It’s now made almost $700 million, according to The New York Times.
“Mufasa” tells the story of how everything happened leading up to the first “Lion King” movie, which was released in 1994.
In the movie, Mufasa is taken away from his parents by a great flood, leaving him stranded. Taka takes him in as a brother. Mufasa grows up with the lionesses learning how to hunt while Taka sits around with his dad, which makes him weak. As they get sent away from home being chased by the white lions, they travel to Milele to be safe.
The movie’s cast includes Beyonce voicing the character of Nala, Blue Ivy Carter as Kiara, Aaron Pierce as Mufasa and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Taka, later known as Scar.
“Mufasa” is filled with characters who make the movie enjoyable for fans. Kiara seems to be one of the most liked characters in this film, maybe because of the fact that she is Simba’s daughter. Other favorite characters might include Taka, Kiros, Rafiki and Zazu.
University Academy freshmen Jayden Locke, Malik Taylor and LaReviah Gilyard said they have favorite characters in the film.
Taylor said, “My favorite character was Mufasa because he was very brave.”
Locke said, “Scar is my favorite character because when he was talking about his ideas and what not, it was a good reason for why he wanted to be king.”
Gilyard said, “My favorite character in ‘Mufasa’ was Rafiki because he has a lot of wisdom.”
“Mufasa” was a musical masterpiece, as well, because of the songs in this film. The song “I’ve Always Wanted A Brother” went viral after the movie was released. It quickly took over Instagram and TikTok. There were also many other songs from the film that audiences liked such as “Bye Bye,” “Tell Me It’s You,” and “Milele.” Out of all the songs from this film, it seems like the UA audience loved “I’ve Always Wanted A Brother.”
Talking about “I’ve Always Wanted A Brother,” Taylor said, “My favorite song was the song that Mufasa and Taka made when they were younger. I think it’s very catchy.”
Locke liked the same song for a different reason.
He said, “‘I’ve Always Wanted A Brother’ was my favorite song, and the reason was because I liked the tone.”
If you have yet to see this film, now would be the time since it’s still in theaters. “Mufasa” is expected to arrive on Disney Plus in March.
