Have you seen any of the eye-catching movies releasing this year?
Some of the new movies catching audience’s attention are “Heart Eyes,” “Love Hurts” and “Captain America: Brave New World.” All three movies came out in February.
“Heart Eyes” is a horror romance film about a serial killer who goes to different cities killing couples on Valentine’s Day. The city of choice for this film is Seattle, Washington. Disney actor Olivia Holt and “Scream” actor Mason Gooding are featured in this film as targets on the serial killer’s list.
The movie was released earlier this month on Feb. 7.
When it comes to “Heart Eyes,” juniors Thomas Smith and Alyvia Taylor are both looking forward to seeing it.
“I do want to go see the ‘Heart Eyes’ movie because it’s a love and horror movie in one movie,” Smith said.
Taylor shared similar reasoning.
Another new February movie is presenting a big controversy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Captain America: Brave New World” released on Feb. 14 in theaters. It’s the first sighting of Captain America since “Avengers: Endgame.” This movie introduces the new Captain America played by Anthony Mackie after the original Captain America, Steve Rogers played by Chris Evans, traveled back in time so that he could live a regular life without being a superhero.
Following the end of the Steve Rogers era, Mackie, whose character was formerly known as Falcon, is taking over. Lot of people, including Smith, are not too excited for the movie because they don’t believe it’s going to be the same without Rogers.
There are also movie watchers who just don’t like the Captain America character in general.
“I’m not a big Captain America fan,” Taylor said.
On the other hand, many Marvel critics are looking forward to the appearance of the Red Hulk, or as some call him, Thunderbolt Ross, played by Harrison Ford. This isn’t the end of Bruce Banner, the original green Hulk played by Mark Ruffalo, but it may be a start to a new branch into a whole new world of the Hulks.
“Captain America: Brave New World” could be the start of a new era of superhero movies with two of the main faces of Marvel being replaced with counterparts.
Lastly, the movie “Love Hurts” is an action-packed movie full of haunting pasts and betrayals. A key face catching people’s attention in “Love Hurts” is former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch, who plays King, the main character’s brother. When the movie released on Feb. 7, it was his debut on the big screen. The movie also features Ke Huy Quan.
“Love Hurts” tells the story of a hit man’s troubling past, which comes back to haunt him after receiving a letter from someone who he thought was dead. This leads to him being thrown back into his life as a hit man and dealing with unfinished business.
Smith said, “I have considered watching the new ‘Love Hurts’ movie because I haven’t gone out to see this movie yet, and I feel like it would be a good movie in general.”
The movie, according to Rotten Tomatoes, is blowing up in box offices, bringing in $5.8 million on its opening weekend, along with getting lots of positive feedback online.
These aren’t the only movies people are wanting to see, though. Smith said he is stoked for the new “Jurassic Park” movie set to release on July 2. He said he loves watching this franchise and ranks it high on his list of favorites.
Go out and see some of these movies while they’re still in theaters. It’s better to be able to spoil a movie than to have it spoiled for you.
NOTE: “Heart Eyes” and “Love Hurts” are both rated R. The age limit for R-rated movies is 17 years old, but children under 17 can see them if accompanied by a parent or guardian. The guardian must be at least 21 years old.
